The nZEB standard can be implemented for all building types, making the right choices in terms of the design, materials, and construction of a building.
The Energy Efficient Building Seminar (EEBS), which was originally planned as in person event in 2020, was held this year as an online seminar series from February 25 to March 16. The hosted series of online nZEB related seminars were organised by Partel in partnership with a number of other leading specialists in sustainable building design and bespoke solutions — including KORE, Daikin, NorDan, and Harmony Timber Solutions, as a response to the recent introduction of nearly zero energy building (NZEB) standards.
As a major supporter in upskilling the industry to deliver high-performance buildings, Passive House Plus served as media partner for the event.
More than 800 individuals showed their interest in this unique EEBS series
The event sparked a lot of interest among the construction industry's professionals, with more than 800 individuals that showed their interest in this unique series. The EEBS brought together prominent leaders within the low-energy building industry including Architects, Designers, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and Building Contractors from across a wide range of companies together into one online live event.
Throughout the four weeks, between 230 and 300 participants attended each session and were able to learn from the speakers about nZEB requirements and building envelope solutions for both new-build and retrofit projects.
‘’Partel is committed to continuous professional development and we aim that this seminar will guide and facilitate a better design and construction of new and existing buildings, based on the recent nZEB standards,’’ said Hugh Whiriskey, Founder and Technical Director at Partel.
Six nZEB related key topics covered in one Seminar Series
In the six online sessions, EEBS provided participants with significant and integrated insights into how insulation, airtightness, heating and ventilation systems, windows, thermal bridging solutions, and timber construction can and should be implemented to meet and exceed the recent changes to Parts L & F of the regulations.
In our First Session, our very own Hugh Whiriskey, Technical Director at Partel addressed the best methods and applications to improve air and windtightness along with designing thermal bridging. He discusses a smarter way to develop and deliver the nZEB standard using high-performance building envelope systems that comply with the TGDs' most recent amendments to Part L.
In our Second Session, we were delighted to host our partner Andrew Butler, Technical Business Development Manager at KORE Insulation, he defined EPS Insulation Solutions that meet and exceed Part L 2019, case studies, technical services, and more.
Our Third Session, on March 4, 2021 focused on Heat Pumps Solutions. Ian Killoch an expert Heating Sales Engineer at Daikin gave a detailed introduction on earth water heat pumps, how they work, efficiencies, and benefits.
Fourth Session was presented by John McMenamy, Technical Manager, NorDan Vindeur. He provided a comprehensive overview about windows solutions glazing timelines, how to specify Timber & Aluclad Windows, building regulations, and more.
In our Fifth session of the Partel EEBs Series Martin Williams, Contracts Director from Harmony Timber Solutions discussed about Timber Frame Structures, offsite nZEB compliant systems, and factory quality control for construction.
Hugh Whiriskey approached ventilation solutions for energy-efficient buildings, focusing on quality design, best practices, stages to achieve nZEB compliance, and more in our Sixth Session of the EEBS Series.
In our Final Plenary we were honored to welcome Jeff Coley, Editor of our media partner - Passive House Plus. He addressed the nZEB market trends and provided valuable insights related to the building envelope. The final plenary also summarized all six CPDs with our green building industry keynote speakers.
Overall, the participants demonstrated high commitment, and a positive feedback was given following each session about the presentations and provided material.
What our EEBS participants say
Some of the testimonials received from our attendees:
"I wish to compliment you on an excellent format and content. The very easy-to-follow sessions divided into Topics was an easy way to understand now NZEB can be achieved by considering each element that can contribute to energy savings and design improvement.'' Michael C.
‘’I found this initiative very helpful and the refresher on couple of nZEB aspects was very much timely for my current projects.’’ Eryk R.L.
‘’I found the webinar series very useful and informative. The construction detailing and explanations were of great benefit. I would be interested in any other webinars you are considering rolling out.’’ Andrew D.
Recorded sessions made available online for the public
